Amid the rising cost of living crisis, Nusr-Et Steakhouse, owned by Salt Bae, continues to attract wealthy diners who are willing to spend extravagantly. Despite charging nearly £700 for its most expensive steak, the restaurant in central London opted to turn off the heating to offset soaring energy bills. Located at the Park Tower hotel in Knightsbridge, Nusr-Et Steakhouse was previously renowned for serving gold-plated steak priced as high as £1,450. Although it no longer offers the gold-covered cuts, the restaurant maintains its reputation for premium dining with offerings such as £680 wagyu striploins and £630 giant tomahawk steaks.
Nusret UK, founded by the flamboyant figure known as Salt Bae, saw its pre-tax profits climb by 44% to nearly £3.3 million in 2022. Sales surged by nearly 66% to £13.6 million, as reported in accounts filed this week at Companies House. Despite this success, the restaurant group implemented measures to improve energy efficiency, such as turning off central heating after closing or during peak hours and minimizing the use of lights during non-operating hours. Additionally, efforts were made to limit the operational hours of the air curtain, a device used to prevent drafts through doors. Nusret UK remains committed to operational efficiency and has incorporated energy-saving features like LED lights and insulation during the renovation of its London restaurant.
Bae inaugurated his initial restaurant in Turkey back in 2010 and expanded with seven establishments in the US, along with one each in Knightsbridge, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. His fame skyrocketed due to his distinctive salt-sprinkling antics, amassing an estimated fortune of £80 million. In 2022, Bae faced criticism for boasting about a £140,000 bill from a table of 14 in Abu Dhabi. The owners of Nusret UK saw their dividends rise to £2.8 million, up from nearly £2 million the previous year.
