Here are the interview highlights:
Can you please introduce yourself and your motivation to embark on this sector?
I am Reem Safy, the proud CEO of Al Safy Group, I have embarked on a remarkable journey that seamlessly blends technical expertise with a deep understanding of the human experience. After graduating from the American University in Cairo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering, I felt a calling to explore beyond the predictable path.
Driven by a desire to bridge the gap between technical studies and the hearts of the workforce, I pursued a Master of Psychological Science Degree at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. This unconventional move reflects my belief that true leadership transcends mere technical prowess and lies in the ability to understand people’s fears, aspirations, and dreams.
Almost seven years ago, I took the helm of Al Safy Group, a family-owned multi-national conglomerate established in 1985 in Cairo, Egypt. Here, I found the canvas to blend the art of engineering with the science of empathy, honoring her father’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
As a leader, my motivation is twofold: to improve upon something already significant and to ensure that the Al Safy Group’s journey is far from over.
Could you please briefly introduce your company and its inception story?

I recognize well that a motivated team is an empowered team, so I keep encouraging open dialogue, value input from all team members, and actively seek their perspectives. By involving them in decision-making processes, I foster a sense of ownership and commitment.
How do you approach decision-making? Do you rely on intuition or data-driven insights?
I navigate decision-making with a blend of intuition, data-driven insights, and my wealth of experience. I acknowledge that feelings play a significant role in my approach, alongside data-driven insights.
In addition, we have a rich history that informs our intuition, and we firmly believe in the power of data to guide our strategic choices. Our decisions are often backed by comprehensive market research, financial analysis, and consumer trends.
How do you handle conflicts within your team? What strategies do you use to resolve them?
I believe that life isn’t black and white. I encourage understanding different perspectives and empathizing with team members. When conflicts arise, I try to see the situation from their point of view.
While loud voices may not always be the solution, I acknowledge that assertiveness can be effective. I promote open communication, where team members express their concerns and ideas respectfully. I aim for win-win solutions. Rather than imposing my viewpoint, I encourage collaboration and compromise. Finding common ground helps resolve conflicts constructively.
I actively listen to my team members. I believe that truly understanding their needs and concerns is crucial for effective conflict resolution. Remember, my approach reflects my experience and growth over time. Conflict resolution isn’t about rigid rules but adapting to the unique dynamics of each situation.

I acknowledge that I am an emotional person who can sometimes manage her emotions effectively but, at other times, struggles. I firmly believe that personal and business lives should not be entirely separate. As a leader, I recognize that a leader experiences the same emotions as team members.
Balancing emotions in a leadership role is crucial for maintaining well-being and effectiveness. Accepting them as genuine and legitimate allows me to address them effectively. I’m trying to manage my emotions by practicing emotional regulation. This involves understanding and controlling emotional responses, especially during challenging situations.
