India criticizes the USCIRF study, accusing it of misleading facts

A report by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) that alleged “severe violations” of religious freedom in the country were categorically rejected by India on May 2 as “biased” and “motivated.”

Outer Issues Service representative Arindam Bagchi said the Commission keeps on spewing such remarks and India dismisses the “distortion of realities” which just serves to “dishonor USCIRF itself”. Additionally, he requested that USCIRF acquire a deeper comprehension of India’s plurality and democratic ethos.

A report by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) that alleged “severe violations” of religious freedom in the country was categorically rejected by India on May 2 as “biased” and “motivated.”

“We reject such misrepresentation of facts,” Mr. Bagchi concluded, “which only serves to discredit USCIRF itself.”

“We would urge USCIRF to discontinue such efforts and focus on developing a better understanding of India, its plurality, democratic ethos, and constitutional mechanisms,” he said.

The USCIRF requested that India, along with a number of other nations, be designated as a “country of particular concern” regarding the state of religious freedom in its annual report on religious freedom.

The USCIRF asserted in its India section of the most recent report that religious freedom conditions in India continued to deteriorate in 2022.

The U.S. Commission additionally encouraged the Biden organization to force designated sanctions on Indian government organizations and authorities answerable for “extreme infringement” of strict opportunity in the nation by freezing their resources.
